Ethical Sourcing

CONTRIBUTING TO THE TANZANIAN COMMUNITY

The locals of Tanzania were in two minds after the discovery of tanzanite in 1967. On the one side, the discovery of tanzanite meant job opportunities for many locals in Tanzania while others were concerned about the way in which the gemstone was mined.

During the early days of discovery, rumours made the rounds of dangerous mining accidents and unethical mining conditions taking place at the mines.

Locals were also concerned about the mining funds leaving the country instead of boosting the local community. The mining conditions, however, have changed dramatically. Each tanzanite is sourced ethically and under safe working conditions. Today, this precious gem creates income for a lot of people in Tanzania and has a significant impact on the economy.

The purchase of each tanzanite helps contribute to the day-to-day lives of the Tanzanian people. With the mining of tanzanite, the Maasai tribe and other locals nearby benefit with better living conditions and an opportunity to receive income.

Each Tanzanite International creation is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity, which indicated the unique characteristics of a tanzanite gemstone. Your tanzanite will also be accompanied by an Ethical Compliance Certificate to state whether the gemstone was sourced ethically.

It’s important to note not to purchase any tanzanite gemstone without these certificates, especially if they’re available at a very low value. For more information regarding the ethical sourcing of tanzanite, contact our team directly. Our tanzanite experts will be happy to guide you.
